Company History
Mr. George Inai
came to America in 1915 from Japan with the dream of one day owning his own
business. A close friend recommended he explore the economic
opportunities for opening a store in the Denver area. In 1944 Mr. Inai
discovered a prime location in Sakura Square
and opened an Asian grocery store originally named Japan
Mercantile Company which was later renamed
Pacific Mercantile Company.
With the help of his children: Susie, Sam, and Robert, the store flourished into a
successful business. Decades later, Pacific Mercantile Co. is still at the same
location of 19th and Lawrence in Downtown Denver and continues to be family
owned and operated by George's grandchildren: Kyle, Jolie, and Kebo.
Pacific Mercantile Co. stands out as Denver's premier Asian grocery store
because of the variety of products they carry as well as the exceptional
customer service they provide. Any question can be answered by the knowledgeable
and friendly staff. Items and products found in the store come
from all around the world including Japan, China, and India, just to name a
few. In addition, they also
sell high quality Asian art goods such as: rice bowls, plates, knives, kimonos,
decorations, origami materials, and much more. In 1990, Pacific Mercantile Co. was named "Best Oriental Market in Denver" by Westward Magazine. In 2002, Downtown Denver Partnerships awarded Pacific Mercantile as "One of the Top Six Businesses in Downtown Denver."
